Greetings, new to the site. I have a 1938 s/42 which appears to have been nickel'd or chromed but otherwise looks to be in good shape and all the exterior numbers match. There are no markings that I can find on the magazine. Any help on the markings would be appreciated as well as ballpark value. Will attempt to attach photos. The suffix appears to be a b.

dutch, welcome to the site; chromed lugers go for about $450-$600 (usually, although folks like the WW2 era best).

The acceptance markings are standard for this year... eagle 63 / eagle 63 / proof eagle

Ed,

Thanks for the info. Don't really see many Lugers at the local gun shows may 2 or 3.

yes, you don't have a location, so I don't know what state you live.

most smaller guns shows, you are lucky to see 2-3 lugers, it is the larger ones, or where collector folks like Geo, myself, and Art and other dealers who buy them so they have 10-20 displayed EACH...

So, many average buyers think every luger is worth $2,000, but they don't get that price usually....

I live in South Carolina and I haven't noticed many Lugers at the shows in comparison to when I lived in NE Ohio. My recollection is, as you indicated, some vendors there having a multitude of Lugers at those shows, of course that's been 15-20 years ago.
