Hi and welcome to the forum, it's hard to tell from your photos but your gun looks pretty good to me. Mauser switched from a rust blue finish with strawed small parts, to an all salt blue gun after serial#1500t. What is your gun's serial number suffix? Regards, Norm

Eugen, how about giving us some more information?
Why is it refinished? From these photo's it looks ok, but these photos are not the best. If refinshed, the 95% doesn't matter in the least, once refinished, its refinished. Ed

I haven't had this pistol in hand. Photos are what I was sent. The seller thinks the piece has been refinished, he suggested maybe 42 refinished it during the war, possible? More to come...btw he said no straw/and suffix on SN is "c"

Would check the suffix since c is out of the 1937 range. Need better pictures to tell you much. However from the present pictures it looks pretty good. I would not bet on it being refinished. Bill

Hi again, That suffix is hard to make out. Try rubbing a little talcum powder in, and taking another photo. I am almost certain the finish is original. Regards

I see a 1937 S/42, sn 9440a, SE/63 SE/63 MTP in the Data Request thread. Could be an "a" Updated....In contact with the owner and he is for sure it is a "c" on this pistol.

Current owner (who was born in Germany and is familier with the script) swears it is "c". I will just have to wait and see. I have seen odder things than this before, haven't we all?

Maybe the worker had too much schnapps and it is an "o".........
![]() The "o" is the only character I see with a tail that high.

It looks like a "c" to me. The high tail is probably a scuff.

According to "Third Reich Lugers" the serial range for 1937 S/42 Lugers is 4500p to 400b. The change over to the all salt blue finish occurred at about 1500t. So b and c suffixes are both out. Regards

A more likely possibility is that this is an imperfectly or partially struck letter. You can see from the photo of the x suffix on my 1937 S/42, that if the top left hand section were missing, it could well be taken for a c. The only way to resolve this question is to ask the owner to take a clearer photograph. Regards

Receiver acceptance stamps are SE63 DE63 MTP.
Reported serial range for 1937 with SE63 DE63 MTP is 4147y-9511z. Looks like a nice Luger...to me at least ![]()
