Default White lettering on a Luger

First of all, I am new to this wonderful forum and I am stunned and faszinated to find so much information about the beloved luger pistol. A big THANK YOU to the helpful members.

I checked out already the FAQ and alot of other threads in this forum, but I could not find some information about the white lettering on lugers.
Which lugers had white lettering? I saw this on some lugers, but I thougt maybe some owners did this by themself.
I like the white lettering, but I am a "as original as possible" guy. I guess, you would not recommend to do this on my 1937 S/42.
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,

The "white inlay" is an application like "laquer stick" or high lighting of some type such as chalk or white crayon. This is added by collectors so that the markings will show in photos. It is easily removed with a tooth brush and oil or solvent.

Lugers did not originally have anything in the markings, with the exception of the "Geischert" forward of the safety lever.

Ron
