Default Sear? problem

I am trying to diagnose a problem a friend of mine has, at long distance. He says that has has a nice P08 luger but the sear does not release the firing pin. I don't have a Luger here to look at but from the parts diagram that I have, I do not see a sear. Any ideas as to what may be holding the firing pin?

Thanks

John

The sear is the spring loaded bar that rests longitudenaly along the left side of the upper "cannon" of the Luger.
Have your friend strip the gun and keep the entire upper cannon together, that is with complete toggle and bolt in the upper. Have him raise and lower the toggle to "****" the upper. There should be some slight resistance from the toggle upon lowering, which indicates the firing pin is being held back.
On an empty chamber, have him press the muzzle end of this bar on the left side of the upper in with one of his thumbs. If he hears a "click" then the firing pin has just been released. If he gets both the toggle resistance upon closing and the click when applying pressure to the sear bar, at least superficially these would appear to be working correctly.
The problem would then most likely lie with the transfer baror trigger.

I think the missing word is a four letter english word for making the gun ready to fire... the act of cocking... which might have been filtered by the forum software... even I as a super moderator couldn't edit it to read correctly! Evidently the Present Perfect form of the the verb passes the filter!
