Hey fellows, I'm a new guy here. I've been picking up some Lugers lately, and have a question on one I recently saw. It was a 1915 P08, 9mm, #69xx. Nothing too special about it, excepting some X'ed out markings on the front grip strap (RSA 280), and a very thin blued strip of metal pop rivited on the upper left side of the receiver and running forward over half way along the top of the side plate, with another small pin sticking down into the sear-stuff that runs behind the top half of the side plate.
I've never seen such a feature, so I could use some of your years of wisdom. Thanks in advance. David Uden |

David,
The sear safety was an extra safety that helped to stop German police officers from accidentally shooting themselves during cleaning of the gun. The complete upper assembly of a luger is a self-sustained gun, perfectly capable of firing a single shot if a round is in the chamber. The sear safety blocks the sear bar when the gun is dismantled, thus preventing a possible accidental discharge. |

A bit of background; this would have started as a army 1915, then after WW1 it was assigned / turned over to the police and received a sear safety.
