Default Color of 1917 artillery rig?

What is the correct color for a 1916-1918 artillery rig? I have seen brown ones for sale, but I thought that during 1916 they were changed to black. Thanks

Default

In addition to examples which were black or dyed black, I've had original colors ranging from caramel to a very dark brown thru 1918. The color of the leather on my broomhandle rigs ranges about the same, with a 1918 dated piece being a deep caramel color. If there was an order requiring holsters to be black, it must have been widely ignored or else it must have been more than the proverbial 10% that didn't get the word.
