It's actually not that bad. My first Luger was in worse shape. It looks like the barrel has been replaced. Add a new pair of grips and take it for a spin. Enjoy. KFS

The grips can be rehabilitated by Hugh Clark... The pistol certainly doesn't look that bad to me... I have seen a lot worse. This war horse has a lot of years left in her.

The barrel has the same serial number as the frame. all the parts that are visible without taking the gun apart, have the same last 2 numbers of the complete serial number.I ordered the Vopo grips from Vern on this board to put on it. I know very little to nothing about Lugers. I have allot of USGI,garands ,1903a3,1911A1's and also a collection of old 5 screw and late model S&W revolvers. So I guess I will need to get some books on the Luger because one is never enough for me. I think I have an addiction.

Dang it the vopo grips will not fit. The right side fits fine but the left one is to long. Did the Luger have to have the grips fitted by hand?
Maybe I could send my wood grips to be fixed up. They are very worn on the inside. The little inside tabs are gone on the right side. what would a refurbish on my old grips cost? (ballpark) Can they even be fixed?

Since the VOPO grips are not currently worth much for collecting, I would consider fitting them to your gun. If you are good with your hands, files, sandpaper, and a dremel tool, you should be able to do this pretty easily. Once you have them carefully fitted, you will be very pleased with them as shooter grips... they fit very well in the hand and are very durable.

All Lugers are not alike... there are very slight tolerance differences between the various manufacturers and most grips require some fitting.

Hugh Clark can quote you on what he would currently charge to rehab your wooden grips. Just do a search for any post using the word "grips" and made by "Hugh"... once you locate a post by him, click on the icon at the bottom of the post that looks like two people shaking hands to send him a private message. You check your own private messages by clicking on the My Profile link at the top of any page.

In my limited experience VOPO grips just don't fit very well. On top of everything else the contours are wrong. You can see a good example of this in Jan Still's latest book, Central Powers Pistols, on page 28. Consider it part of the mystique of East German craftsmanship. With a little hand fitting they should be OK - just work slowly and carefully. KFS
