Hi to all! I know that we use the terms rust blue, and salt blue, but what is the high tech term for it when you want to describe it to a industrial manufacture?? Is it just black oxide?? I am curious as to what they called the finish on blue small parts contracted outside the gun industry?? Such as the rivet that pins the "fxo" mag bottom...would you call that blue or black? Looks to me that it was an industry wide finish, but you never hear of bluing outside the gun world... Let me know what ya think! Best to all, til...lat'r....GT

Black oxide. It's black because the surface is etched before treatment. If it were polished, you would see the blue hues. Industry uses a lot of Manganese Phosphate too.

Hi Policeluger! Nope!
I'm very, very happy with my small parts blue guy, and you know who that is! I'm just fishing for info cuz I'm trying to get some rivets made and I can't talk to them (manufacture) on the same level about what I desire for finish! I believe the original "fxo" rivets are not preped, left bright and blued, but I'm so damn blind, that I can't tell if they are originally blue or black??? Whatever they did, the rivets hold up well under setting, as they alway look undisturbed as far as the finish goes.... As for Bluing, I already got a good blue guy... again, you know who he is! Same guy that taught us all about strawing too! Best to you, til...lat'r....GT
