Default too High a price--or a good deal??

I'd like the opinions of you knowledgeable folks. I just purchased what appears to be part of a 1938 Naval luger for 270.00

Described here: Up for bid is a Luger P 08 6" pistol barrel, front sight and upper. Upper is stamped with a 1938 on top and 744 on the side. There are two eagles over a 63 on the right side of the upper. Bore is superb, looks like a mirror. No finish remains. Overall exterior condition is a GOOD, inside is an EXCELLENT. Refinish and turn it into a great shooter.

I have a nice mismatched DWM that the barrel and upper will be mated to.

For a shooter peice (since I don't have the 2-10K available for the "real" ones...did I pay too much???

Brien, welcome but we need larger pictures. Also, I didn't think there were any 1938 6 inch navy lugers, but I could be wrong.

But if you were looking for a 6 inch shooter top part, the price was not bad...

Brien, I saw that auction too but didn't bid. I got the impression the barrel is aftermarket and has been added to the 1938 receiver. If the barrel is as good as described (the seller has excellent feedback) I think you did all right and will have a nice poor man's Navy Luger. Of course the Mauser receiver will look a bit weird with your DWM toggle, but the average joe at the range won't notice. Hey it's 9mm and should be a lot of fun swapping between 4" and 6" uppers.

Do you plan to get an ejector and sear/trigger bar so you can quickly swap uppers? I swap uppers on my mismatched DWM and both work well with my trigger/side plate but this isn't always the case. Hopefully you won't have any problem with your side plate. Also it would be good to have a gunsmith check it out just in case, especially headspacing. I did that myself before firing with the new upper.

Good luck and definitely post lots of pictures when you get it! Let us know how it goes. Don't worry, you done good...

Brian, I have the small parts that you may need, and if the front sight base is of the high Navy type, you may want to consider adding on of my new repro Navy rear toggle with the 2 position adjustable rear sights, made in Germany: cast @$200 or Milled like the originals @$400 + S&H. Lugerdoc hellerarms@webtv.net PS: I can also install these items and tune your luger for an additional fee.

Talking Thanks

Thanks Ed, Quentin and Lugerdoc for your replies and comments/suggestions.

I have been wanting to "make" a Naval Luger for some time, but had trouble finding the 6" Barrel. THe only one I could seem to find was the one by the canadian company, and it was listed as SOLD OUT.

I am getting ready to retire from the USAF and my funding is going to be cut short for a while so I thought I would try to get this one.

Brien, let me give you a better answer; if you buy a 6 inch barrel and pay to have it put on a receiver, you'll pay $100-$200 more than what you paid, so you did okay in my opinion
