Well John, how about let's do something in 2008??? A place where we can get together and show/tell Lugers.
First, I suggest, what country where most members reside (Poll?).
And then a location. Another poll.
And how many would attend...

Johnny,

This has been talked about several times in the past year and not really pulled together.

There was such an event about 3-4 years ago called Luger Fest, but that one was hosted by one of the big luger dealers and has not been repeated.

Awaiting another such organized event, you might consided being a "guest" of an NAPCA member and joining us at the SE NAPCA gun convention in August in Chattanooga, TN.

The convention usually has over 200 tables with Member's displays and items for sale...many, many lugers and other arms of the "auto" family. The event is not open to the Public unless you are an NAPCA member or hosted by one.

You will see lots of honest lugers, hosters, etc. and things for sale are usually priced well. Two years ago, three Members had their Navy lugers on display...a world class grouping of collections of ~100 guns and accessories.

Send me a PM through the Forum and I can email you more details if you have interest in traveling from TX to TN in August 2007.

Hey Pappy!

I think the "weak link" is, well - me Sorry about that! With over 4000 folks on this site, and many living in the US - you would "think" a meeting would be a "natural"..?? What Ed & I envisioned towards the end of this year, a few months ago (when he lived just up the street for a few months) - was an informal meeting of Luger nuts.

However - *if* (and heavy on the *if* here) we were to plan it far enough in advance with enough interest - I think another convention would be of tremendous interest... I also know I'm not alone...

So - are you volunteering to make it happen?? If so - let's start a new thread, and we can "stick" it at the top of this Forum... If we plan mid to end of 2007 in a convenient location - who knows what could happen???

Best to you - and let me know your thoughts, OK?

My thoughts.

By my posting "let's do something in 2008???" is to see what response/feed back we receive. My intent is to gage interest.

I have posted a similar comment in http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=23466

I envision a gun show concept with tables and user names.

Hopefully some one step forward and take charge of logistics. I cannot.

Let's make it a 'sticky' in all areas (cover all the bases) of the Forum and see how the members respond...Pappy

We might make one sticky, but not many, as this entire forum can be looked at by clicking on the View New Topics

I always see this as part of the problem, folks suggest something but need others to do the work (no offense meant). Also, I always see everyone suggest close to their home. Someone has to either fly or drive very far.

The last time we did this, we met at Ralph Shattucks house. The advantage to something like that was that Ralph has a collection of probably 100 lugers, and then had another 1500 for sale. So it was very interesting.

The problem with meeting rooms is that meeting rooms can cost at least $300 dollars a day, even for a smaller room. Folks will say, oh but if you meet at the hotel it is free. Not from what I have seen and I coordinated several meetings with about 75 people for work, and all the hotels I checked for a meeting room charged us, plus you have to guarantee X number of rooms. It is true that some places will give you a meeting place, but the guarantee sticks, so If you say 35 people and only 30 show up, someone has to pay for those other 5 rooms, times how many days you said you'd be there.

That was the reason Pete suggested a meeting that is already scheduled, i.e. the NAPCA meeting (or the like).

All that said, we can see how many folks would truely travel?

We did it before, about 15 people flew or drove to Phoenix, we could do the same, at some location, we just need to plan it in advance?

Sticky...
"We might make one sticky, but not many, as this entire forum can be looked at by clicking on the View New Topics."

Not everyone will start at the home page. I usually enter by clicking onto a subscribed thread. Then the 'view new topics' is not seen.
Another downside is that hotels, cities, states may have strict firearm policies.
Looks to me that NAPCA or Shattucks house is our best bet...Pappy
