I came across a couple luger for sale, one dated 1940, the other 1941. Is one more "desirable" than the other. All things being equal as far as condition. Thanks

too open and vague of a question. Are these mausers? what is their serial numbers? Are they Krieghoffs (unlikely, but you didn't say)...
![]() there are 41 byf's, there are 1940 banners, there are 1940 / 42 toggles... there are no simple answers for lugers, that is why we need more information, rather than less. Heck, they could be navy or police sub-variations ![]() Then, say you collect nazi era lugers and you have everything but a byf 41, then you'd pay more, condition besides the point... ed |

If both pistols are standard military issue and in similar condition, I would choose the 41 date, as the 40 dated Lugers are about as common as you can get in the military category.
