Default Former Arty Holster?

I bought a P38 with two magazines and a holster yesterday. The holster is interesting. It is marked under the flap ______ KUHN over _____ GRIMMA and 1915. It is cut at an angle through the makers mark. The holster used to be brown, but the front is dyed black. Where the magazine pouch is, it covers two rows of stitches that follow down the rest of the holster. There are two tool pouches under the flap. One is what I expect to see, and the other is a strap of leather underneath it, with a hole punched in it to secure it on a stud. There is also a little loop of leather under the flap.

Sorry, but no pics until later tonight.

Did they convert arty holsters at some point for use for regular Lugers?

Thanks in advance.

Emo,

Some Luger holsters were converted for P.38s. And yes, Arty holsters were commonly converted for 4" Lugers post WWI due to the fact that after WWI as per the Trearty of Versailles Lugers could not have a barrel longer than 4".

CPT Emo, sounds like you have an LP08 holster converted to a Reichswehr holster. The additional tool straps would be for a tuna can cleaning rod. Is it unit marked along the top edge of the front body?

I do not see any unit markings. I can post pictures tonight. I have to do some work on my cousin's wedding pictures right now.

Here are some pictures. She's not pretty, but not bad for 91 years old.

Hi Emo,

E. Bender, in his large book on luger holsters on page 200, shows an almost identical holster as yours...that one is in mint condition and was at the time the book came out in Mike Morris' collection.

Does yours have any stampings on the back ? The Bender holster is indicated to have an Imperial "Crown/III" on its back.

Here is the Bender book page 200 photo scan :

That is the same holster. I cannot find a Crown stamp on it. The leather tab on mine is held on with a few stitches of white thread. The tab is the original however, judging by the circular needle holes on it.

Emo,

LF member Jerry Burney could probably help your holster with re-stitching of your closure strap and even adding back the lift-out strap; although I think the top of the holster was cut deeply and with that rakish angle so pulling out a luger would not be difficult.

Jerry B. has done masterful work for many members and all are very please with his craftsmanship and pricing.

Ed,

Are you refering to the one that I sold you? If so, no. It's a standard holster with a stud instead of a buckle. The lid doesn't have the downward angle on it. And I believe that it was made that way. I don't recall any stitching holes.

Ron
