Default A new Email Scam directed at eBay users

Got this in the morning email... looks genuine, except that I don't have anything for sale on ebay... click on the link and it would take you to a Paypal looking website for you to login... but what is really happening is they are capturing your paypal credentials to use your account...

Be Afraid... be very afraid of any unsolicited email from folks you don't know...no matter how genuine the email looks.

Make sure you report any/all suspicious emails to Ebay. They will also confirm if it's a scam. You can also log onto your Ebay account and see what messages they're really sent you (and what they haven't).

John:

I have received a number of these, in fact, just opened one about five minutes ago.

I open all headers and forward each one to "spoof@ebay.com" and then process them thru SpamCopy.

Internet scum is still hard at work and there doesn't seem to be much we can do about them.

Very kindly, David

PayPal and eBay - inspite of being anti second amendment - are very polite: they will ALWAYS greet you by the FIRST AND LAST NAME that you registered when you opened the account. Spammers / scammers do NOT have access to that information!!! If you are not greeted by name, DO NOT RESPOND. Forward immediately to spoof@eBay.com or spoof@paypal.com. Hint: put both of those addresses in your email address book, with nicknames beginning with a letter not used for any other nicknames in your book. As soon as you type that first letter in the TO window, you'll be offered a dropdown choice of only those two.

Ponyman, it is not true that spammers don't have, or can't get, your name, the one I posted a week or so ago came with my full name in the TO: line, it looked totally authentic. I use Firefox as my browser and when I put the cursor on the blue highlited link that I was to click to dispute the transaction, it showed me the real address just above the toolbar, in the one I got that supposed had the PayPal link it gave me the following: http://www.cradelofdreams.com/.us/deny.htm, that sure is not a PayPal address.
