Default Swiss Luger - worth?

I have found a 1900 Swiss luger. very good condition - 95%, has dish toggles, flat mainspring and extractor, 3xxx serial number, has swiss cross on barrell and swiss cross/sunburst on top of barrell, DWM, several proof marks. The owner calls it a Swiss Rework? does that make sense? Does anyone have any idea of its value? I would appreciate it.

Does the Swiss Luger have a normal or wide trigger? If it has a wide trigger, then the value could be around $6,000 as a result of the limited production of Swiss Wide Trigger Lugers.

In regards to the proof marks, it sound like they are the BUG type proof marks, however, please supply more information. If the Luger has any small crosses, such as on the barrel or rear toggle link, it could mean that the barrel has been Swiss Arsenal replaced and the rear sight could have been altered.

According to your description, it sounds like the Luger is in very good condition and I doubt it is a rework.

GRW, I doubt that this 3xxx range will have the wide trigger as they only appear in the 4xxx range. If any rework was done at the Bern arsenal and all parts are properly numbered and proofed, it may be a good buy in the $2000 to $3000 range. Tom

Tom,

The wide triggers seem to show up right at serial number 4000 and stop right at 5000.

I have a really nice 1900 Swiss Commercial; it is just about perfect except for a ding in the trigger guard. I put it up on GunsAmerica last year for $5,000; I had some interested parties but no takers.

The market talks to us and I suppose the market was telling me my price was too high; bear in mind this gun looks as though it rolled off the assembly line last week; except for the ding in the trigger guard.

I have heard numerous times, that the Swiss routinely refinished their guns; perhaps that is what the originator of this thread was referring to.

This refinishing was done, supposedly, by the rust blue application method I think.
