Grip - Magazine combo?
Can a 1941/1942 P08 with wood grips have a black plastic buttom magazine and still be correct? Or did they only fit aluminium buttom magazines in pistols with wood grips?
Sorry if this is a dum question, but I suddenly got in doubt. |

byf43,
The only dumb question is one you want to ask and don't. Jan Still's "Third Reich Lugers" estimates that 20% of 41 and 42 byf Lugers were issued with black grips, the remainder are wood. 41 byf's in n and o range were issued with aluminum bottom mags and the rest were issued with black plastic bottoms. 42 byf's were issued with black plastic bottoms and rarely with an aluminum bottom. Based on the percentages I would say that black plastic would be correct unless you have a 41 byf in the n or o range then aluminum would be correct. Tom |

The byf 41 Lugers had aluminum bottom numbered magazines until at least the U-Block. After that, the magazines were mostly either aluminum or plastic bottoms without numbers.
This is true regardless of the grip material. |

Thank you very much to both of you. Very detailed answers! Great because now I can return to this thread next time I need to check up on things.
