Hi.

I have heard that the Tulsa show is one of the best in the country. Is that true for lugers? How many luger-type tables are there usually? Where is the best show for lugers?

I'll be in Birmingham, AL, this week, does anyone know if the show there is any good? Thinking of a road-trip!

Thanks,
Chuck

Birmingham is the best in this area but not up to the quality/quanity of the Tulsa level. Last time I was there it took about two hours to cruise thru the first round. Stayed about three hours and saw all I wanted to.

Yes, I made it to the show. I went with Bob Adams, John Eckert and Warren Buxton (P.38 books author). We had a good time and the trip went well, although that is a lot of driving. I drove from El Paso to Albuquerque on Thursday morning and then we all continued to Tulsa - 16 hours on the road alltogether.

Saw George Anderson, Tom Heller, Bob Weiss, Leon DeSpain and Johnny Peppers there. Of course the big 3 were there - Shattuck, Simpson and Feit. George Anderson brought in most of the collection he just bought (all the ones he isn't keeping for himself!). Nice guns. As usual, Fred Fiet's table looked like a museum.

I would guess there were at least 200 Lugers at the show. Didn't count them, but there were several tables with over a dozen guns on each and lots of one to three Lugers per table. Yes, there were a couple of Krieghoffs, if you are interested in that sort of thing . Not bad guns but nothing to hock the farm for. Didn't find anything I couldn't live without, but there was a really nice 1900 Bulgarian that I wish I could afford.

I found four additions to the US Test Luger list, one in-range and three above-range. Will update the list on the forum in the near future

The show was pretty well attended but not as well as I have seen it other years. It was kind of a mixed result show. Some of the guys said they did very well and others said the action was pretty dead and didn't sell or buy much at all.

Thanks Ron..!!!!

It's sounds like you had a terrific time - and was worth the trip... 'Course - I'd ask what Johnny P., Bob, George and all are really like, but - you know - we don't want to make them blush or anything <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Now - about your comment "...there were a couple of Krieghoffs, if you are interested in that sort of thing....". You know my comment would have to be, as your taste matures a bit..

Seriously - thanks for the time to post this!!!! Also - any chance you are going to Vegas?? If so - let's plan on hooking up, OK????

Best to you Ron - and thanks again!!!!

I'm not sure Pete. There were several Ruger displays and one from Interarms. All the awards went to those displays. John Eckert had an outstanding Swiss Luger display but didn't get diddly because the judges couldn't read his extensive background data as they were walking by and didn't take the time to stop and look. I know I am biased, but none of the other displays had the rarity, quality and educational content of John's displays. Ticks me off.

Thanks Ron! Mr Eckert has had a great Luger display at many of past Albuquerque shows, as you know! I hope to make Tulsa someday!

Thor, Very good show, had I staid through Sunday I may well have done even better. As it was I sold a few lugers there with a couple of follow ups and bought three. The best of the three is a 1914 Erfurt LP08 full rig with three matching mags. The only defects are a mismatched firing pin and extractor. Now I shall have to sell my other 1914 rig.

This brings up a question of ethics. The rig I would sell has an AWM 1915 soft holster. The holster is, without a doubt, original to the pistol and stock. I want to switch out the AWM to my 1914 DWM before selling it and replace it with a standard 1915 holster. If I do this will I go to Luger Hell?

Ron,

I think this might be the display your friend John Eckert had at Tulsa...last time around. Sorry I missed his fine Swiss luger display...

Borrowed the photo from the Tulsa Gun Show web site...
