Default Ron Wood - Dutch Mag Question...

Hi Ron,

In your Dutch magazine tutorial posting (closed topic), you have this following photo :

(Discussion link : http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...774#post129774 )

The shape of the wood on the magazine (at the finger button) on the left seems to have a one-sided shape to its wood radius/chamfer.

Is this what is to be expected on Dutch DWM magazines or GS made magazines ?

Pete,
I am not sure if DWM made any of the Dutch magazines. Perhaps DWM furnished the initial mag tubes and bases, but very probably most of the surviving Dutch magazine bases were the product of the GS. According to Martens & de Vries, all parts of the magazine except the body and follower were eventually made by the GS. Of the 9 Dutch magazines that I have, most of them have that one-sided shape to a greater or lesser extent. I suspect that the variations among them are due to a combination of wear and/or individual machining. There are also minute differences in the shape of the retaining spring tips and the recesses in which they are fitted. I would venture a guess that the GS employed a lot of hand work in their fabrication (that certainly is evident in the GS made grips).

Hi,

The Dutch East Indies Army could indeed produce most small parts themselves, which was usefull in the normal cycle of maintenance, repair and refurbishment.

The magazines were ordered from the source that could supply them the cheapest. Archive material survived that shows that some of the magazine deliverers were DWM, Mauser, Krieghoff and Haenel.
