Thoughts on this 1941 Police Luger on GB?
Hi everyone,
I am new here and have learned a vast amount of Lugers over the last day or so. I am looking to get my first Luger, but definitely not this one. Wanted to share because it caught my eye, and the current sell price is absolutely astronomical. It looks very very nice, and seems like its mint. If it was refinished it was definitely well done. It's an all matching 1941 Mauser banner Police Luger with an original holster. Not sure if I can post current gb links so apologies if its not allowed, and I will delete. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/878855789 |

What's wrong with the seller?
I have posted some lots from this seller and nobody here have found something criminal. Photos are definitely HDRed but Luger itself looks like original. Just my 2 cents, still learning ) |

This particular seller, his loyal bidders and his wares are discussed across the internet, on many forums.
Some guns are legit and of the highest quality. Some are iffy. Others are blatantly misrepresented. Many times, aggressive bidders will have feedback only from the seller, gunsrc. And these bidders can be found in the bid history of several auctions with astronomical final prices. Several guns which have appeared to sell for insane prices will suddenly appear for sale on other venues than Gunbroker, with the same pictures, description and location, but under a slightly different seller name. Note the claims "TWO MATCHING MAGS...FULL RIG! 100% ORIGINAL, MATCHING AND CORRECT" and "ORIGINAL FACTORY BLUED FINISH!" will state firmly that the mags are original. Full rig is original. Gun is original matching. Finish is original. Yet mags show previous numbering. Fonts on receiver and frame don't match. Lines and edges on receiver and frame are no longer sharp. Bid price is already bordering on the sublime. Study up on the seller and his completed auctions. Then make your judgement. |

I'm glad to read to read martin08's post. I was just about to bid on a Winchester Model 69 this seller has for sale. Now I'm going to have to reconsider.
I have to agree also that the Police Luger is shaky for the same reasons. Jack |

I would just be very aware of the actions and status of other bidders. As I stated earlier, some of his stuff is original and nice. No two ways about it. Just be informed, and proceed with caution. |

In reference to this seller, I have sent him a message : "I have a C&R License and am located in south-central Indiana. If I have the winning bid can I drive down, use the inspection privilege you offered, pick it up, and make payment at that time? Jack".
I think this is a reasonable request. Although my message pertained to the Win Mod 69, I think it would hold for any gun this seller offered. I'll post his reply if/when I get it, one can take it at face value. Like the Luger, the Winchester looks almost too good to be true. Jack |

Thanks for everyone's input! Didn't even notice about the number fonts. Really appreciate the insight from martin08 and will be something to look out for.

It's 9pm, I'm in the same time zone as the seller. He has not yet responded to my "Ask The Seller A Question", question.

Not everyone lives fulltime on the internet.

Here's his response from last evening, 6:10pm. Don't know why it took so long to reach my computer, but it happens.
"Hi Jack, As we have no store front, it's been policy before I even got here that there is no in person pick ups. Sorry and thank you for your interest. Matt" Pretty reasonable and gentlemanly, I'd say. From what I see, I can see no reason not to trust his integrity, despite some folk's negativity, so I'm going to bid on one of his guns. Jack |

No wise crack at all. I’m simply saying that perhaps you should be patient and not expect others to keep the same internet schedule you keep.

Bill,
It is a wisecrack and you're directing it at me. I find it offensive. Which I see as your intent. To suggest my responding to a post that impugned a seller's integrity, that I was about to use, possibly saving me some anguish and money, by attempting to learn a little more about the way the seller does business, and informing interested members of the result, which is on topic of this thread, as impatience, is a stretch. I see nothing offensive about it, and it is on topic No, there is more to it than that. Your irrelevant, to this thread, response to my followup of a previous post of mine is meant as a criticism. Do you find me offensive? If so, say so, instead of making lame, extraneous wisecracks. Your off topic remark is resulting in the hi-jacking of the OP's thread. If you want to persist, please PM me and you can rant all you want. This is my final say. Jack |

Jack, if you are comfortable with the gun based on photos that is fine. However I would have classified that reply as negative, although polite.
I note this could cost you postage and the gunbroker fee; "therefore refund will be less shipping and fees charged by Gunboker" I would be interested in and appreciate your assessment once you have it in hand. |

Gentlemen, play nice
Jack, you are being argumentative for no reason and taking things to a point I don't understand. Please stand down - if it was a wisecrack, it was slight, not a molehill. Quote:

Heinz,
I don't know if I'm going to have it in hand. I think you've about talked me out of it. I can live without that rifle. I should just save my money. I don't like buying guns sight unseen anyway. There has been plenty of warning on this thread, I'll take heed. Jack |

I was about to do a quick thread clean up and delete a few posts and send a PM or two...
What Ed - just said... Isn't there enough to get upset about nowadays - rather than at each other in this community? John D. |
