Loads for 06/29 Swiss Luger
I've been trying my handloads in my Swiss Luger. My load is the 85 grain Sierra bullet together with 4.3 grains of 231 all loaded in Star Line brass.
Now this load sometimes fails to extract. I've checked out the other threads here and it seems that 4.3 grains of 231 is too light a charge. It also seems that perhaps I need a slower powder--something like Unique. One guy here uses 6.0 grains of Unique together with the 85 grain Sierra bullet. This is apparently a starting load. Apparently the maximum load is 6.5 grains of Unique. Now load data for the 7.65 Parabellum is hard to find. What do you guys think? Your comments please. Fluffy |

My old Lyman's Reloading Manual lists 4.6-5.2gr Unique for 85gr FMJ. My new Lymans (49th) does not list anything for that bullet. To me, 6.0gr is too hot of a load. I have been using Red Dot for quite a while with Sierra 85gr, and Hornady 85gr, but am planning to do some tests with Unique very soon. Red Dot is a very fast powder, but has worked well near max loading.

I tried 5.1 grains of Unique together with Starline brass, the Sierra 85 grain .308" bullet and CCI small pistol primers.
What a combination! The pistol fed and extracted perfectly and accuracy was top notch. I do not need to look any further. I have found my load. |

I hope to be loading some 30 Luger in the next week or so, and will keep this load in mind....thank you. I also bought some 93gr LRN bullets made for the 30 Luger that I hope to try at that same setting with Unique. Sooner or later, I will find "the load" for my Luger in 30 Luger
