Default My Frankenluger

New to the site. Thanks for the opportunity to be here. Attached are photos of my first P08. It is half one serial number and half another, the mag is different as well. I got two magazines with the gun but the other is a recent manufacture. Best I can tell is the top is Mauser due to the 42, date of manufacture 1939, not sure about the receiver. The finish on the pistol is much bluer than the pictures reveal, the bore is wonderful, and I've only got $800 in her. Maybe I paid too much?

Well, have at it and tell me all you can.

No, you didn't pay too much; if it shoots as well as it should!

At $800 you got a darn nice pistol. Especially one with 2 mags like that. Congratulations! Also, don’t be worried about mismatched mags. Matching mags are a rarity.

The lower (receiver) appears to have the Mauser hump, so it is at least the same vintage as the 1939 upper.

1938 or 1937 is my guess.

Thanks for the replies! Does the 2 on the mag mean it was the second in an original set?

What does the second magazine look like? The answer to that is maybe. What happened in the field isn’t always well documented. Matching magazines to a pistol are not common to come across.

The second magazine is not antique. It has a black plastic bottom, no markings. Sorry that is what I meant by “recent manufacture” in the OP.

Your 2 marked mag is a second mag for a Police pistol. Army spares were marked with a +.

It's your avatar you paid too much for..

Your mag WAS originally an Army and was accepted at one time in Police service as a spare.

And no, now that you bring it up. I don't like your avatar. Nothing personal. I just don't like looking at freakish clown faces on a gun site. JMOHO.

Thanks, that’s the reason I’m here. I just want to know the history of my pistol.

Tough crowd. Doesn't like looking at freakish clowns or deceased cape buffalo...

Ladies and gents, this clown's face is way more sinister than freakish...although it's that, too. It is the iconic image from the "Saw" franchise, and great for anybody who appreciates moral and personal dilemmas with their coffee!

45, I agree that your lower half is also made by Mauser. Your unwaffenamted w suffix mag was originally with a Police Mauser banner luger. TH
