I am ashamed to admit to you all that I am a Native of California and that I have lived and worked here the majority of my 42 years with the exception of my time in The Corps.
I have spent the last 17 in Law Enforcement and have decided that in 8 years and 3 month's I will leave this state to the left wingers and the wackos and begin my life in a free state where gun owners are not vilified nightly/daily in the press and on the t.v....... I will be 50 and have 25 years with my Dept. and be ready to retire, so I guess on 1/01/2011 I will be a former resident of the Demoncratic Repulsiveness of California, it was a good place to grow up in before the late 60's and the 70's came to be. Anybody got a small place away from big cities you can recommend ? By the way, I live less than 45 minutes from the state capitol, never have liked being that close to a cesspool !!!!!!!!!!!! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Torquemada055, I can relate to your comment. I spent 28 years in that "state" in Sacramento. My house backed up to a grade school yard. They passed a law that Weapons were prohibited within 1000 feet of a school, I knew I was in deep $hit! I had a C&R license, registered with the Sheriff and it was just a matter of time with Fienstein and Boxer hanging upside down from the rafters before I was a target, and perhaps an example. I got out, moved to Utah, gun control here is considered 'a steady aim'. If you check the latest BATF pub on Published State Firearms Laws, you will find that Utah has 3 and 3/4 pages of laws dealing primarily with who cannot own a firearm, California has "64" pages of laws covering everything imaginable. They (CA) do not want a law abiding citizen to have any means available for protection. It is generally accepted that the police have no responsibility whatsoever to protect anyone. They respond to crimes committed. I was here for about 6 months, took the class and applied for my concealed carry permit, got it in about two weeks. Utah has a 'Must Issue' policy, if you are clean, you get it. Try that $hit in Kalifornia and see wher it gets you. In my opinion, California is on the verge of becoming a communist, or at the very least, a Police State. During the years that I lived in that hell hole, not a single law was passed that helped me, all of them were a result of buyoffs by big business shoving money under the table to get laws enacted for their own agenda. We, my wife and I, both have children, grandchildren and great grandchildren living there but I cringe at the thought of going back there to visit them. It is a really sad situation, but that is how repulsed I am at the policies of that state. The county that I live in here in Utah is just over 2,460 sq. miles, has 1 highway patrolman, and 1 sheriff and 2 deputies. We leave the doors and windows open at night to cool the house down, rarely lock the cars, and if I want, I go out front and shoot away, no one cares, it is common up here. Consider this if you decide to move. Sure, Salt Lake City has the same problems as any other big city, but not at the same rate. I'm running off at the mouth here, I just feel really strong about the ignorance of the CA lawmakers, the most stringent gun laws in the nation, the highest crime rate. Someone needs to face the facts!

Torquemada055,
Both Pennsylvania and Florida are good places to live for shooters (depending on whether you like winter or not--I don't). Avoid the big cities and stick to rural counties. Both states have "shall issue" permit systems. PA probably has better hunting (I don't care, I don't hunt), but you can't hunt there with a Luger. FL has better fishing (you can do this in good weather). Cost of living in both places is one heck of a lot lower than Kalifornia.

When I lived in Calif, If you were being robbed and wanted assistance within half an hour, you were better off calling Dominos Pizza. Tom H.

Come on down to Alabama. We can marry our cousins
and fourteen (or is it fifteen ? ) is the legal age of consent, leash laws are never enforced, but gun ownership is not a problem. Seriously, the Huntsville Al police dept has lost a dozen or so experienced officers to the Air Marshall program, they really need men now. And I do have good friends there. The cost of living is 50% of what you have there and the outdoor activity opportunities are are wonderful. Please consider it. RK |
