Weird markings
saw this pic on the other site, but no one had remarked on it.....any story behind these markings, or just someone doodling on metal?

While the simbol above the 41 date appears to be an SS unit rune I cannot find this specific design in any of my references.
The maltese cross on the toggle looks like a poorly executed engraving, which alone makes both engraved simbols suspect to me. I would say some sort of post war boosting. |

The engraving bears a strong similarity to the work on the $ 65,000.00 one to me but then again I like English Rose and scroll styles

In all fairness, the guy who originally posted those pictures was not trying to pass it off as anything. He inherited the pistol and admitted that he knew very little about lugers. He just posted pictures looking for information about what he had inherited.
