Correct bluing for 1902 ae

I am doing some more research into having my AE fat barrel restored. I have found a gentleman who does nice work I havent committed to anything but What is the proper bluing method for this year pistol? Also have any of you had restorations done were you pleased with the results? I have seen this guys work and he does a great job I am just soooo nervous about giving this weapon to ANYBODY

I can't remember if your fat barrel is messed up or not....

Just be aware that once "restored" / refinished or touched, it can not be "undone"...

Unless a basket case or you hope to make money later (hard to do) on it; then rebluing it is strictly for your own pleasure.

I would think that if you can get it restored it would be nice to do so.

Whomever you get to "restore" it, they need to know lugers, and they'll know the proper blue to put on it. If you just get a guy who does good work, the color will be off or too black or too shiney.

Yes I do agree The pistol is solid and there is no pitting so I think it will clean up nicely I am just scared to actually go through with a restoration

The finish on a 1902 is rust blue, a bit more demanding and time consuming that the hot salt blue of WWII Lugers. The most critical part of restoration is preparaton of the metal. Care must be taken not to round over sharp contours or remove markings. For a quality job, this requires mostly hand work. If the refiniser even mentions a buffing wheel - run away. You have already had Ken Karsted recommended as a possibility to consider. He knows what he is doing.

Well I have contacted Ken Karsted and spoke with him. A ver nice gentleman we talked for a bit and I got a warm fuzzy from him. I also did drop an email to Gale Morgan and sent photos havent heard back from him yet.
