Pete,
Thanks very much for posting this. I don't have one, although I have examined one--someone brought it to the Portland gun show a few years ago to sell. I couldn't quite crack the $1k he wanted, or I'd have it now. It was a round-barrel version, iirc the barrel was very thin-walled. I don't think it had target sights, but I could be wrong. Interesting that the article talks up the trigger pull. Also interesting, is the author of the article--these guns are sometimes called Wyatt-Imthurn. --Dwight |

Dwight,
I've sent you high-resolution versions of these photo scans...figured you might like a better version for your files. |

When I was at the Lugerfest in Arizona 4 or 5 years ago, Ralph had one on consignment, I think it was around 1.2 k, I should have bought it. I remember that they fed from the top, and if they held five there was no magazine.

They are multi-shot, and they are loaded from the top. The bottom of the magazine well is plugged and the entire grip becomes the magazine to accommodate the increased length and width of the .45 round. A special follower and spring completes the modification. There is a slot in the right grip that permits the insertion of a rod to pull down the follower during loading...pretty much like using a tool to load a regular magazine.

Dwight and all,
Here is a link to the US Patent # 3039366 granted in 1959 and 1962 to Elmer Imthurn and Kenneth Wyatt. Looks like one of the developers and patent-holders was a gun editor and placed the article in the "Gun" magazine to drum up interest in their venture... On the right-side illustration view of the luger, it appears they may have been planning a cartridge-counter type "window" in the right grip panel... http://v3.espacenet.com/pdfdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=US3039366 |

At the Conn. gunshow I saw a Wyatt today, they wanted $2900 for it. It had a really long barrel, maybe 10 or 12 inches long. I did not get a chance to look at it, as they were busy for a while and I forgot...

Pete,
See my earlier post...the "window" facilitated loading - [There is a slot in the right grip that permits the insertion of a rod to pull down the follower during loading...pretty much like using a tool to load a regular magazine]

At least the four I have seen Pete Seriosuly, somewhere I think I heard less than a 1,000, I would guess much less than that. My guess is around a 100?
