Remember Pearl Harbor
Seventy years ago, December 7, 1941, the United States was attacked by Imperial forces of Japan at the largest naval installation; Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, addressing the joint session of Congress on December 8, 1941 said that a state of war existed between the United States of America and Japan and described Dec. 7 as “a day which will live in infamy.” There is no question that the sudden and treacherous attack on Pearl Harbor and nearby U.S. Army, Army Air Corps and U.S. Marine facilities took place while two Japanese emissaries of the Japanese Ambassador to the United States, Admiral Nomura, were “negotiating” with our Secretary of State, Cordell Hull, and the Japanese Ambassador met with President Roosevelt even while the Japanese naval forces were in route to attack Pearl Harbor. Let us take a few moments on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 to remember the sacrifices and loss of life on that sudden and treacherous attack 70 years ago and offer a prayer in their memory. May God bless all of our men and women in harm’s way, serving in our military throughout the world, and God bless the United States of America.
