Post C&R import law question

I have a C&R license and I'm interested in purchasing a Luger from a Canadian dealer but according to my understanding of the law, this is restricted because it is a military surplus gun. Anyone have experience with this? KFS

Hello Karl,

There are a couple of Forum members that live in Canada and have shipped/sold lugers in the States.

Mr. Peter Dunster (aka "LugerCollector"), is one that comes to mind.

It might also be wise to contact the BATF and ask directly and get a written reply from them. Such documentation might be useful, if something goes wrong...

Here is the BATF link :

Pete...

Hello Karl.....It can be done....you need to find a licensed importer in the USA who will fill out a form 6 for your firearm....the gun also has to have been in Canada for at least 5 years...approval can take along time....also it can be frustrating...but if you are patient!!!!worth it....email me if you want more info...Peter...

I may be mistaken, but I believe that Tom Heller (Lugerdoc) also has the appropriate import license for a transaction of this type.

The problem you will be warned about is that there is virtually no return possible if you are not satisfied with the purchase... Get plenty of photographs that show the details that you want before you lay down your money on an international purchase...

Canadian Law info:

A military LUGER with a barrel lenght less than 105mm is a PROHOBITED HANDGUN in Canada and CANNOT BE IMPORTED in Canada.

Only LUGERs or other pistols with a barrel lenght of MORE THAN 105mm can be imported in Canada....At least that includes Navy's & Commercials....

All,

Having been the victim of the Canadian Socialist Government's no returns policy some years before, I would caution all that, like a diamond, a Canadian Import is forever! Its also like a case of herpes...you can't get rid of it.

You have no, zero, nada recourse if the gun is not right.
