Is this repairable??? Hurt Value?
Date: 1940
Manufacture: Mauser 42 code Serial# 4134 (not sure on alpha character) Im looking to pick this Luger up for a local gent. and was curious if this is something that can be repaired without diminishing value of the gun. It's all matching except for the mag which is period correct mag,a mec-gar mag and a holster. What it worth in its current condition? What could I do to reduce or repair the rust? I have a Luger on the way from GB and Ill have pics of it as soon as it arrives. Im just wanting to start my Luger collection and didn't know if this is one not trying to tackle early on since I new with Lugers. Last edited by Craig651; 05-05-2013 at 07:08 AM. Hi,
The value of a collecting gun is already gone. The problem is that anything is restorable, but the investment needed to do a proper restoration will never be translated into the value of the restored pistol. $600 shooter + $600 restoration = $700 shooter at best. |

I see. what's the verdict about just repairing the rust on the parts shown in picture #2?

Use some 0000 steel wool and oil to clean up the rust and then have fun shooting it.
I wouldn't spend any money on repairs if it functions.

Let me sound like a broken record, buy books, figure out the era you want to collect or shoot and then go from there.
Decide if you want to be a collector or accumulator...
