Feedback.... ??!!
As many of you know, I've been trying to get the most out of this connection/server/network. For example, starting at 3AM this morning - I reinstalled another version of Linux for this main server without all the "overhead" on my previous install... Yesterday, I also upgraded/replaced all my remaining network hubs with switches (and tossed all the hubs)... As you may know - over the next several weeks, I'll also be more then doubling my bandwidth into the Internet...
Anyway - I finished it up earlier today.... And just tried optimizing the web settings (reverting to some PHP scripts, and playing with the cache - etc.). HOWEVER - IF YOU HAVE A MOMENT, could you please post back if it is better for you right now???!!! Just a quick comment would be very appreciated.... And while I'm waiting for your feedback - I cut a quick video - explaining how I feel as of this week..!!! If you'd like to see it - it here: http://www.ubergeek.tv/switchlinux/ Best to all..!! |

John,
I wondered what was up. I also have a cable modem and up until this week navigating among the forums and topics was very fast. Then starting about Monday, I had time to go make a sandwich when moving from one screen to the next. I chalked it up to that new net virus and figured it would resolve sooner or later. But,happily my forum browsing now is as fast as before. So good on ya! Appreciate the effort. However, keep working those hours and you will end up looking as old as me. Take care of yourself as well as the forum. Thanks a million.

Hello John D.,
I am on a 56K modem and I seem to be slower than I have been going from one page to the next. I also am still having to log in everytime I go to the forum. I have tried everything recommended to prevent this but nothing seems to work. And to add to this my custom avatar keeps disappearing. I know this is a big load for you but just thought the info might help.

Hi All...!!!
Thanks a million for the feedback!!! It's much appreciated!!! Sorry for the delayed reply on my end - but I was installing another software patch... Also, ToggleTop - I'll get you squared away in just a bit..!!! Let me take a look for your Avatar, and I'll set it up for you on a permanent basis (I'll add it to the root dir for you ). As well, can you tell me how you are coming into this Forum (from http://www.lugerforum.com or another link?), and what type of Browser you are using (Mac/Windows/Linux - IE, Netscape, Opera, etc..)... I'll PM you when I have some suggestions... Thanks again to all..!!! |

John D.,
I have tried entering the forum through the main page and going directly to the forum page. Both entries seem to give the same result. I am on AOL and I guess I browse with AOL. I do have Internet Explorer but my browser page reflects the AOL browser. I guess I could try going to Internet Explorer's browser page and see if that makes a difference. Don't spend to much time on this because none of it is a big problem! Thanks,

Toggletop, try opening Internet Explorer and bookmark Lugerforum.com as your home page, but after you log in.
John, 56.6 K much faster than earlier this week, will play some more, always start at the top and read down. Ed

Ed,
When I enter the forum through Internet Explorer I do not have to log in! It use to work with the AOL browser but about a week ago it changed. There must be something different. I set LugerForum as my home page like you said. Thanks,

At some point IE must have remembered your settings and now just logs you in. Nice for home, bad for the office, but good for the home!

I'm using IE and a 56K modem on a dialup connection, and come in directly to the discussion page. For the last few days I could go armadillo hunting while it was changing from one page to the other. Tonight things are working a lot faster, but not as fast as a week or so ago. <img border="0" alt="[sleep]" title="" src="graemlins/sleep.gif" />

I use a 56K dialup connection from home John D., and average 53.5 K every time I log on. I use IE 6, and the page loading is much perceptibly faster than last week.
Good Job Ubergeek!

Well,
I guess my Internet connection is about as poor as they get. With my 56K I connect at 26400 bps and once a month I might hit 28800 bps. Everything is slow to me so I guess I cannot compete with you fellows. I said mine was slow but I guess it is always slow. Gives you plenty of time for a pee break though!

I connect from the UK with a 128k ISDN connection. (I live in the boonies and will be dead long before broadband gets here.) My connection to the forum is great while the USA sleeps but slows down significantly once you guys get out of bed and seek out Luger info.
That being said, the quality of the posts and info on this forum would make a much worse connection tolerable. Keep up the good work!! Many thanks, John |
