Below is a summary of the Mauser Military Code Luger variations. A total of 52 variations are tabulated. The really obscure variations such as the shape of the dot in the P.08 are not included. If I have left something out let me know. I am very interested in how collectors regard these variations. Let me know which variations you find the most important/interesting (your favorites). Please list what in your opinion are the 20 most important Mauser Military Code Lugers and post the information here. The most important/interesting should be listed first.

I have also included for your perusal, comments, and corrections a description of the magazine types that belong with each variation of Luger (confusing codes are not part of this description). This a continuation of the magazine descriptions on pages 125-126 and 171-172 of Third Reich Lugers.

Production starts with the top of the rear frame thickened forming what collectors call a hump. Later the whole rear frame is thickened (Figure ). Hump in frame

MAGAZINE: crimped nickel plated (Type 1). An H is located on the magazine spine up to about serial number 2500. The magazine acceptance stamp is located on the magazine base and most often corresponds with the right receiver acceptance stamps. 037 or B90 observed. The sequence of stamps on the magazine base is as follows: The serial number is located in the middle of the magazine base. An S part code is located above the serial number on earlier magazines. The a suffix (if present) is located below the serial number. A + indicating the extra magazine (if present) is located below the serial number and suffix. Last, the acceptance stamp is located below the serial number, suffix, and +.

MAGAZINE: Both blued crimped (early) and blued extruded. The blued crimped magazine (type 2) bears the same acceptance stamps on its base (SE655) as found on the right receiver.
The blued extruded magazine (type 3)has an improved zig zag spring, square cut bottom, and has a concave ended pin through the center of its base. These do not bear acceptance stamps on their aluminum bottom, except some of the early production which bears an E/37 on its base. These extruded magazines bear an SE37 122 SE37 on the left side of the magazine. The earlier production bears an E/37 / serial number / letter suffix on its base and the later production has only the serial number / letter suffix on its base.
