Default Weird S/42

New to Lugers. Recently bought a S/42 dated 1937. Probably re-blued. S# 53xx. So far so good. However this has a 12" barrel with a ramped front sight. The rear sight is a basic open Luger sight, nothing like the usual carbine or artillery sight. I suspect it was professionally re-barreled at some time, but wonder if it is actually an obscure legitimate model. Can't seem to find anything that matches in my reference books. Thanks for the help.

I am afraid you bought someone's garage gun shop target pistol. There was never anything remotely like you described produced by any legitimate Luger manufacturer....

It may be just a re-barreled shooter, but I would guess with a 12 inch barrel, it would be pretty accurate with the sights that far apart... how does it shoot?

Have not tried it yet. Probably would need a stock to really test it. I may just get it re-barreled to a more regular size. Price was right, so that might be the better way to go and have a nice shooter.

Please post a pic. there have been several long-barreled Lugers on this site lately (one is down in the arty forum), and it is always interesting to view examples...

dyale -

Please be aware that it would be a violation of BATF regulations to attach a stock to your particular Luger. If it was a legitimate LP-08 (the "Artillery Luger") then attaching a stock would not be a problem.

It could be a fun shooter as is.

Will try to post a picture if I can figure out how to dc it. ;-) I knew about the stock issue, but thanks for the advice. I guess it's OK to have one, just so long as it's not attached?
