By 1939, Mauser was salt bluing their Lugers, including the vast majority of the commercial ones.
From what I can make out in our pictures, your's looks right as rain... Take pictures without using the flash in indirect (shaded) sunlight outdoors. They will show the finish more accurately. Use a tripod and the camera's closeup setting to get sharp pictures. BTW. a 1934 Mauser is a pocket pistol, not a Luger. "K" date Lugers made in 1934 had strawed parts, as they did until the change over to salt bluing during 1938. Marc

Strawing and rust blueing was dropped as a production characteristic around mid 1936.

I agree, in fact I have a Mauser made in 1937 without straw coloured parts.

Cool I guess everything is looking right for this gun, I've seen what some of them go for quite a bit of money, I think I got a great deal at what I paid. Thanks again

The change over to non-strawed luger small parts was in mid-1937, I have two 1937 lugers, one with strawed parts and one that is non-strawed. Bill Hughes

Banner Commercials all the way up to '42 are found with both strawed and blued small parts.

Ok thank you all again I really appreciate it, I'll try to post some better pics this weekend. I got one more question, are Mauser Banners considered rare, I heard they were at least later ones, because most of the guns produced were going to the army, police ect... Thanks again

I did some research and my gun matches exactly as a Mauser Swedish contract. I attratched one of the references below, tell me what you all think. If it is there were only 25 made in 9mm dated 1939.

Don't know if you are interested or not, but our own Hugh Clark could really clean up the grips, clear the flat spots, etc.

Yeah that would be great, it's not a strip and a refinish though is it?

Serial number siffix
Apologies if I missed it; but what is the suffix of the gun?
As you know there are many variations of the 1939 Banner but a lot of research has been done to isolate which contract or use was intended. We can deduce a lot from the photographs you have provided but the more details the better. Thanks, John |
