Krieghoff with grip safty

There is a Luger for sale that is advertised as a DWM series 1920 commercial with grip safety in 30 cal. 3 5/8" barrel sold by Krieghoff it has no markings over the chamber DWM on toggle and stamped on left side of frame Heinrich Kregoff / Waffenfabrik / Suhl
I have a few low grade photo's He said he paid 7500.00 for it 10 years ago and want's 8000.00 for it. It seemed very high to me anyone have a opinion

I'll try to help but without more information and photographs, it's a bit difficult.

First, there were thousands of these pistols made by DWM and sold to the commercial market by Krieghoff.

Most backframe marked guns go for $2000 to 3000. These are common and are basically Weimar Era guns made by DWM, not Krieghoffs as such.

Now there are side frame marked guns with fuller elaborate Krieghoff lettering and some are actually genuine. Standard 1920's era DWM guns are frequently "improved" with the Krieghoff side frame inscription and are not genuine. The difference between the honest inscription and counterfeits is fairly evident. Caution is urged. Honest ones can command a higher price than the back frame. Maybe $1000-1500 more.

To quote Randall Gibson from his book The Krieghoff Parabellum," Unfortunately, so many DWM pistols have been faked with a Kriefhoff side frame inscription that it is questionable whether legitimate examples even exist." I would also question the grip safety on a 1920 or 1923 Commercial. Since 1920 and 1923 DWM commercials did not have a grip safety. I have not seen an exception but others may have. Even then the gun if it was real is not worth half that amount. Good one, in my opinion, to stay away from.

I've already seen more than one DWM Luger somehow matched with a frame bearing Krieghoff marks/side frame inscriptions for sale in gunshops, and I've been told : "... but, what do you mean? this is a Krieghoff!!" by starry eyed gunshop owners.
In these cases I'm always pretty suspicious and keep in mind the saying: "it's always better not to rationalize purchasing a gun that is not convincing me from the beginning, and I try to ensure that I should reject it".

I like grip safety guns. If you could move the decimal point on the purchase price one digit to the left I would buy it in a heartbeat! But at $8K, no way (hey, that's a pretty good rhyme! )

Julia auction March 2010. The side frame inscription is a clumsy forgery. In the alphabet commercial i suffix range grip-safety pistols do exist, but whoever did this wrecked a really rare example.

$3,737.50 price includes buyer's premium.
