Mec Gar magazines/Fiocchi .30 Luger ammo
I know I've asked this before, but not in a while. Does anyone know where I can get MecGar Luger magazines or Fiocchi .30 Luger ammunition? Those Triple K magazines were a fail! I've tried Google and the respective MecGar and Fiocchi websites, also Midway, Widener's, Ammot to Go, GunsAmerica, Gunbroker, etc.
I'd settle for a source of .30 Luger 93 grain bullets I can reload. I have the Hornady 86 grain bullets (.308 Φ). |

These elements come and go, as far as availability is concerned. There have been posts about bullets in the Shooting and Reloading section, and quite a few possibilities for bullets have been discussed.
Yeah, Triple K is kinda junky. Best to stick with Mec-Gar for shooting, or perhaps a couple original mags beefed up for great performance by G.T. (on the forum). A couple of times, I've won "new, factory" aftermarket mags on eBay or Gunbroker, which looked decent in the pics, but turned out to be Triple K, or worse--not worth even the low price at which they can be bought. Unfortunately, it would appear the days of ordering ammo online are gone in NY state. The SAFE Act now requires a background check for ammo sales. It's a good thing I acquired rounds of .30 Luger before this madness was precipitated upon us. I think they're having trouble implementing the plan, as anyone with half a brain could have predicted, because this is quit a burden for any retailer who wants to sell ammo. Last time I was checking WalMart for WWB in 9mm, there was a little sign taped up to inform us that a pistol permit is required for purchases of pistol ammo. I believe that patience and active searching will pay off for you. When you encounter an element you seek at a decent price, jump right on it because it usually doesn't last very long. In between times, we'll see lots of posts from newer members who ask the same questions. I think reloading is a fine solution to the problem (especially for New Yorkers) because you can eventually work up a load recipe for a round that maximizes your pistol's capability to be accurate, and also shoots really sweet.

I just saw Mec Gar Mags for sale on e-bay. $ 44.00 as I recall.

Actually I contacted MEC GAR by email a couple of months ago, and they answered that at the time they were out of stock of Luger magazines.

MecGar magazines
Try gregcotellc.com
They have a large variety of MecGar magazines; unfortunately, at present, they are sold out of Luger magazines. The MecGar magazines are the best ones available, and are priced at $27.95 and $29.95 depending if you want blued or plated. Keep checking with Cote as the magazines are restocked andsell out quickly. I can`t help with the .30 ammo. |

OK, but I'm thinking the decision one would have to make is whether to pay an extra $15 each for immediate gratification, opposed to waiting for the retailers to re-up.

If I'm not mistaken, MecGar is in the process of coming out with a "new" design in their Luger mags. I'm going to call it a second generation. It will have a polymer follower as I understand. This is apparently why we're having to wait. Bill

The new Mec-Gar mag is already out, and has some very needed upgrades... My hat's off to them on the changes, but the mags not being available is very frustrating ......Best to all, til...lat'r....GT

Good information
Got the ammo from Sportsman's Guide already. Galati Int'l was out of magazines already, but I got right on the case and ordered 2 magazines from Hunter's Emporium. Thanks for the hot tip, CapnJohn!

Thanks, CapnJohn! I pulled the trigger on two MecGar magazines from Hunters Emporium too! (But I'm still kicking myself for not immediately jumping on a few boxes of .30 Luger at this past Show of Shows too.)

Hunters Emporium sent me an email on the 12th saying the magazines had shipped. They haven't showed up, though so I tried calling to check the status. Not feeling good on this one. The phone number carries an automated "this voice mail is not set up" message and a quick Google search of the address shows the listed address is a UPS Store. Most likely a guy with a computer and cell phone, placing orders and drop-shipping them, rather than an actual legitimate business.
Add Hunters Emporium to your list of "businesses" to avoid. |

Bill,
You're not totally screwed. Hunter's Emporium TWICE sent me emails that my orders had shipped. I'm able to monitor my credit card on a daily basis and they credited the charges back to my account both times. No harm. No foul (but no Luger magazines, either!) |

Bill
I had the same experience. I ordered a couple of mags and some 22 ammo. Got a e-mail that both had been shipped. Waited and no product! Phone call as above. Sent a E-mail and got a pretty quick answer that both orders where canceled,no explanation. Sounds like I will be talking with my credit card company about a fraudulent charge. Grrrrrr!!!!!! Bob

Yeah, maybe I wasn't as clear as I should've been. I wasn't thinking "not good" to mean "I'm screwed", but more of a "crud...I really wanted those magazines and now I'm not getting them."

I checked into buying a bunch of Mec-Gar mags direct from the manufacturer a number of years ago, they pretty much told me I'd have to order like a 1,000 mags at once to get distributor rights....

I'm wondering if I could pick up some the next time I'm in Italy and if I'd have some "splainin" to do to customs when I returned.
