Post Takedown lever spring assembly

Now that I have springs to keep the takedown levers from falling out, how do I get the things back together? Putting the spring in the proper place is no problem. Getting the takedown lever all the way to the hole in the right side of the frame is not too difficult but I cannot line it up to go through the hole for the final push! How is it done? The spring pushes the lever up so that it no longer lines up with the hole through the right side of the frame. It is not off by much but enough so that it won't go in the hole.

Use a small dowl rod or punch to push down on the end. It should go pretty easy, unless your spring is too thick. Also make sure that you get the end pushed all the way through the hole.

Doug is right, the new spring may be just a hair too thick... make sure that the spring is resting in the notch on the takedown lever.

I would use the dowel, not a punch, to make sure you didn't mar the lever during the insertion process.

While compressing the lever on the spring with your fingers from the top of the frame, try some small mallet hits on the lever with a hard rubber mallet. Make sure that you are hitting the part of the lever that is directly over the shaft.

You could also try burnishing the spring a little to remove some of the bulk. It shouldn't be so tight that you can't remove the lever with hand pressure once it is installed.

Let us know how you make out getting this installed.

Success! Today I got the takedown lever springs and levers installed. I used a padded C-clamp to push the levers in while using a wooden dowl to push the lever into proper alignment. Now I know why somebody removed the springs in the first place. Both levers are extemely difficult to turn. But at least now I can take the guns to the range and shoot them without worrying obout them coming apart in the proccess. Thank you for the help.
