Default Price Check 41-42

41-42, Serial #7225N, that has been buffed and re-blued. Proofs are missing on receiver and barrel. All parts match; no numbers on grips. One matching mag. Grips are original luger grips with bad repair on front top of left grip. Barrel is good with some frosting. I realize that buffing and re-bluing relegates this to shooter status. However, with only 7000 produced I would appreciate thoughts on value. Actually not a bad looking luger.
Thanks.

Bill, are you certain that it's been buffed and reblued? It's hard to tell from just the two photos.

You can always tell from areas like the raised border around the frame ears and the frame rail. Buffing will always affect a crisp edge there.

Since it is fairly rare and fairly nicely redone, I would not hesitate to ask for $1,100, give or take, for this pistol.

I'd like to see some closeups of the buffed areas. I'm just not seeing it, but I'm not able to blow up the photos either.
At the very least it is a high end shooter, but probably more given the rarity and matching mag. I'd probably come in a bit above Alan.
What are the possible explanations for the lack of proofs?

It definitely has been buffed and reblued, at least parts of it. The proofs were buffed out. Will try and put more pictures on this PM.

Hi Bill, 41-42's are uncommon but not all that rare. Still estimates 7,000 produced, and some collectors believe the number is as much as double that. Besides, any collector sophisticated enough to appreciate this Luger's relative rarity would surely be turned off by those buffed off markings. I think you have to price this gun on it's merits, as a shooter.
Best regards, Norm
