*Extremely* timely.
Although I am not a 80's era 'survivalist", there are some things that I think are only prudent in these uncertain times. I would add a couple of other preparations folks should have:

1. A couple of thousand dollars in cash (10s/20s), cause cash is always king and ATMs don't work when there is no power or there has been an EMP event.

2. Keep a half tank of gas if you live in a major urban area; you may have to leave with little notice and gas pumps are like mini ATMs with same caveats.

3.Have a plan. All loved ones should know where to go and when to evacuate. A re-uniting plan is assumed. If you live on the east or West coasts, plan to go inland several hundred miles.

4. Be *very well* armed. You want a personal protection piece on your body at all times; you want a back-up in your (and your loved one's) vehicle along with at least 100 rounds of ammunition for each weapon. Ideally, you will have a "survival" shotgun for small game hunting, should isolation in nature become a reality.

5. Buy a hand crank radio. They are cheap and work pretty well.

6. The Boy Scout stuff, well, if you need help here, Darwinism has prevailed and we are probably better off with out you in the gene pool.

Tac, this is in your back yard, I read somewhere that in WWII the UK taught a "toes to the nose" method. Simply start at the toes and keep bringing up point of aim to his nose or until he goes down. And that's good advice. Thanks

A number of sport shooting clubs, including mine, needed to take some measures against attempts of 'fanatics' to get shooting experience, access to fire arms and ammunition last year. An e-mail containing advice 'to behave naturally (read "western"), not discuss politics' along with the addresses of shooting clubs circulated those days.

We took measures to prevent any fundamentalist getting access to the shooting ranges and it certainly took away the fun for a good 6 months.

Gerben, let me say that I for one, thank the Dutch for their contribution to our efforts in Iraq. I am also heartened to see that the Dutch, of all the Europeans, have recognized the ultimate danger of a totally alien culture amongst them.

Seems it is ever thus; yet when this is pointed out, we are immediately buried under a landslide of accusations of being "racist".

Race has nothing to do with it; in fact, scientifically speaking, there is no such thing as race.

So lets get beyond being PC and deal with the problem: Islamic fascists (for the moment) and those other darlings who want to see democracy and representative government fail. This also includes the cutpurse petty criminals, drug lords and assorted goblins that one may find in most of the large urban areas world-wide.

We shall certainly win in the end, but there will be a vast amount of blood and treasure wasted to destroy those whose ideas and perversions of religion belong, along with the -isms (Communism, Nazism, Socialism, Fascism, Liberalism) of the last century, in the dustbin of history. As for the common criminal element, as reports of large scale jail (Gaol for your Brit sensitivities)conversions to Islam or some mumbojumbo anarchism masquerading as Islam are increasing, I suggest that there is much here to concern ourselves.

Which right trumps the other: Freedom of Religion or Freedom from Bodily Harm? I think I know the answer; wonder what the courts will decide?

They were comments reflecting the problems with current American society, or at least the radical left wing of it.

No offence towards you was intended; I have neither the time nor the inclination for that. To the contrary, my posting was complimentary. I was impressed by your candor in describing the problem in England, as I suspect the same statistics could be found in our criminal justice system here. But it would be suicide for any politician here to quote those statistics in public.

William F. Buckley did a very tight analysis about 10 years ago. Bottom line, if you took USA crime statistics and backed out crimes committed by Black, Hispanic and Asian males between the age of 15 to 25, our crime rate would be similar to that of Luxemborg.

I do not think things have changed that much here in the last 10 years, but I suspect that the crime rate in the Grand Dutchy has increased with the influx of the "ostees".

The Commander of squad faces right then marches stiffly up, removes his large caliber 1900ish revolver with laynard attached to belt from flap holster swinging on a Sam Browne rig, cocks hammer to rear, steps up to the still warm blindfolded body of the well intentioned but militarily unacceptable by the unflexible standards which required the execution of the dreamer to save him from himself. He aims the well oiled softly gleaming revolver carefully and fires one shot into the heart of the now very still corpse. The corpse convulses slightly from the impact. The commannder reholsters the revolver, snaps the tie down strap, faces to the rear, motions for the funeral detail to bring the coffin forward (the same one the executed sat on as he rode in the wagon), then marches briskly back to the firing squad, commands "Attention! Right Face! Right Shoulder Arms! Forward March!" They exit the courtyard. The burial detail place the corpse into the plain wooden coffin with no great amount of care, place the lid on, set it into the wagon, then drive toward the cemetery. The only remaining sign of the execution is the still smoldering cigarette on the ground still moist with the saliva of the executed man. It soon extinguishes itself. Then there is no more.
