Post Fantasy Uhlan Luger holster

Fellows, Don't be fooled into believing this holster was ever issued to German troops. It is a fantasy piece dreamed up by International military antiques inc. and offered in Shotgun News, Jan 1, vol 58,issue #1, page 68. $50.00 plus shipping. $6.50.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2217221088

Offered on eBay this type of holster has been around for decades but it is not original in any way. Supposedly issued to German Cavalry and is left hand draw. The Cavalry saber was for the right hand! International military antiques inc. will sell you one much cheaper than the one on eBay is already up to.

Take a look at the back belt loops on the eBay holster and it immediately screams fake. Jerry Burney

Jerry,
You have to admit, it has been quite artfully aged, just like the LP08 holster he also has for sale. Looks like he has the "oldy moldy" process down pat. And boy, are they rare and unique! Did you notice that both holsters have exactly the same maker mark..."Arhoffma Berlin 1916"...what are the chances of that?!! How anyone could be taken in with these holsters beats the heck out of me, and yet prices are already out of line and the current high bidder for the "Ulan" holster is a major dealer! (Please, no remarks about the dealer from those of you who know him). These holsters are definitely P.T. Barnum specials.

Ron, How right you are! I did not see the Artillery untill you mentioned it but he does seem to have the aging process down, or what he percieves to be aging. I have seen holsters that are 100 years old that look very nice but these specimens look as if they came out of a swamp.

You will notice the spare mag pouch sewn onto the front of this holster is not notched at the top as is the one on the spine.

The chances of the maker mark being the same are surprisingly good considering they were made by the same repro outfit.

I too was surprised to look at the bidder list to see some familiar names. I cannot emagine what these people must be thinking. I would think they would know better or perhaps they want it for a novelty. Inquiring minds want to know! Jerry Burney

Jerry, I very humble ask, as I do not know about this holster and as we do not know each other, but it just closed at $512.00. Could there be more too this holster then your first post here? please understand no flamming here, but what is going on with Luger holsters that bring this kind of money?

Guys,

As I recall the folks from CMR International sell these, new, as nice "repro" units for not a lot of money.

Maybe this enterprising fellow just adds the "aging process" to fool folks thinking they are buying a rare old piece and to separate them from their hard earned cash.

Just a WAG on my part...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

PoliceLuger and all other interested parties...No, There is nothing to this holster other that it is not known to many people because it is pure fantasy and was never issued to anyone in the German Army or any other German unit. It is not found in any of a dozen Luger holster publications because it does not exist except in the mind of IMA or Sarco or other's known to offer this spurious dream World piece. Nor is there any known period photograph showing a German Cavalryman using this type of holster.

The holster shown in the photo's on eBay is easy to spot as a fake just by looking at it. It's all in the details and holsters made during this period were not that much different. This one stands out like a diamond in a goats ass.

I am constantly amazed at how easy it is to seperate collectors from their hard earned cash. It has been said many times on this Forum, buy a book or two or get on line and look into something before handing over your money. P.T. Barnam said it years ago and he was right...$512.00 is a bit of cash in anyone's mind and to simply throw it away on this curiosity is criminal. You can buy a pretty nice original holster for this kind of money. Besides, this holster can be had for only $56.00, shipping included and you can age it for free.I can't wait to go to eBay and see what fool bought it. I hope I don't know him. Jerry Burney

Here is the holster that CMR folks sell as new...wonder if some guy is starting with these and then making them an "historical & authentic" piece...?

Sorry to change the subject for second fellas but, can anyone give me an opinion on the quality of stuff being sold by IMA? I'm thinking of getting one of their .303 mounted infantry bandoliers. Are they an honest representation of the real thing or are they cheap and nasty?
any comments or opinion please.

I've never seen anything about these so called Lancer Cavalry holsters being authentic, but they sure are a nice looking holster/case that hold 2 magazines for $45.00.

Charles M. Roscoe (CMR) is a member of this forum... I think that I will email him a questions about any provenance regarding the authenticity of the design... I will post his response...
