Older magazine with ivory color plastic base. PICS added
Hello all, New to this forum.
I recently acquired a beautiful DWM 1918 P08 in VG condition. 75% finish remaining, no rust. All matching except for the toggle lock lever, that operates when the mag is empty. Is that a numbered part? Beautiful bore and I paid $800 for it. I'm thrilled with it. It came with repro stocks I'm sure, as they look really good for the age of the pistol, with all peaks sharp. Also I've noticed that standard stocks do not have a border around the edge, but have the checkering all the way to the pistol. Most importantly, my Luger came with a very old magazine with a white/ ivory plastic base. It appears to have been blued at one time, but is now a brown patina color on the metal. Follower is steel. The base has only one rivet and seems to move under spring pressure from the mainspring. Any info on this type of mag? Any value to it. I have replaced it with a CTD repro wood bottomed magazine and it looks great, and works great, but I know it is not original. Anyway thanks in advance for any info. |

Is there any way you can post pictures of the pistol and the magazine? Mauser720 - Ron

I wonder if given enough time in the sun if the early plastic bottom magazines will bleach out?
Has anyone noticed discoloration of their mag bottoms? Vern |

I'd like to know more about that holster. Did it come with the gun?

Yes the holster came with the pistol. It is marked on the back
"H.HARMS Berlin 1933" Then in large numbers it has XXd out SMg674 and a new number stamped 9426 It holds the pistol, a loading tool in a seperate pouch inside the main flap, and a spare mag on the outside of the main pocket. Stiching is black, and it seems to have a repair on the locking strap. Chemical repair I think, as it is soft and smooth everywhere but it is hard in a tiny area of the locking flap. Overall good condition, and included with the pistol as an afterthought. Free is always nice! The mag bottom is not bleached, as you can see in the high def pics, it is white/ ivory everywhere, and I doubt it has spent any time in the sun. Darin |

Prince, the mag with white bottum is an original with a very cheesey plastic bottum installed. The magazine shown in the pistol appears to be a reproduction and the grips are reproductions of Swiss Luger grips,

George,
Thanks for the information. The one in the gun is the CTD (Cheaper than dirt co.) reproduction. It works perfectly, and looks better than the old one with the white plastic bottom. I feared the grips were repros. Can anyone help me find a correct pair? Will this mag have any value to anyone in the trading post? I'd love to find a period correct unit. Thanks Aaron, You are in Vista. I'm in Bonsall. Let's go shooting! I belong to Rainbow range in Rainbow, just south of Temecula. Darin |

Price, I would guess that the white plastic mag bottom shown is marked inside "Franzite" or "Sportarms". I have these available in white, brown or black @$10 each. I may also have the correct numbered (last 2 digits of serial) HO device for your PO8, let me know serial. hellerarms@webtv.net

Aaron,
I'll call today. LugerDoc, I pulled the base and it is marked "Sports NC" "chicago" Thanks for the info. I emailed you regarding the HO. Also, if you have wooden bases available I'd like to try and salvage this magazine. Darin |

Darin,
If your interested... I have a pair of original grips that were recheckered by Hugh Clark, our resident Lugerforum Gripmiester. $110.00 shipped. I can send pics if you'd like. Mike C.
