Need help with Luger

Hello I am new to the board and would like to have some help with what type of Luger I have. I have gotten differing opinions on what it is. I have been told it was reblued. So, any help would be a great help to me.

From your slightly blurry pics it doesn't really have obvious evidence of rebluing to me.
But I could be wrong.
Appears to be a nice 1940 Mauser, with possibly Krieghoff brown plastic grips.
Can you get more clear and more close up pics of it for us?

Hi David,

I'm not really a Third Reich Luger guy, but I'm with Anna on this one. It looks good to me too.

You have a Luger made by Mauser (42 code) in 1940. With one early type II magazine and a later 122 fxo coded extruded magazine.

If the grips are Keighoff ? They hold considerable value on their own. The blue looks original.

Looks so far so good. Edges are sharp. The general feeling is good. As mentioned by Ron, grip panels are not Mauser. No reference at hand, 42 code probably has wooden grips.

Assume this senario: I'm the seller of this gun on G-B, you sit on potential bidder's position.... then you may want to request the following:

The frame is from Mauser (with the hump), therefore some fitting must have been done to the Krieghoff grips to make them fit. If original, that may have lowered their value some.

Alvin; out of curriosity, what would the right side of the takedown lever show?

On the picture, the front edge of the frame in that area looks a little bit blurred. Just curious it's sharp or not. Probably a picture problem.

A picture of muzzle would also help.

You know, some dealers may reblue 90% gun these days..... very hard to tell, because the base is not bad. The driving force is profit, is money. The last 3% is more than half of the price.

David -- Thanks for the pictures. Originally, I thought the ears looking weird. By comparing with a few other 42 code guns, it's OK.... 42 code Mauser should have this type of ear pattern. I would say the metal & finish looks original to me.

I don't believe your pistol has been reblued...You will notice the yellowish coloration in the safety area, Gesichert. That is original and the rest of the pistols small parts exhibit the proper fire or plum bluing one would expect. The serials and proofs are crisp as are the edges. This pistol sports it's original finish.

I want to thank you for all the information. Steve, Jerry and Alvin I appreciate your input and I feel much better about my Luger. From what I can tell it has krieghoff grips. I also have the holster it is a Gebrider Klinger Dresden 1938. I appears to be black on the front and brown on the back. Is that normal? I thought they were all brown.

David, Gebruder Klinge is a little closer I think.
Many holsters were made in brown then blackned on the holster front by Government directive to standardize the Army's colors.
The Luftwaffe and the Police were not bound by this Army directive. But..Just because a holster is brown today does not make it a Luft holster.
There were black Police and Luft holsters.
