Question restrawing and value?

Hello, I have a 1914/1920 Erfurt double date/Weimar Police School/ Eastern Front caputre Luger, like most of the lugers captured by the Russkys they were "re-blued" and plastic grips were installed...i am wondering if it would increase the value to put some original wood grips on it and possibly have it restrawed...just an idea... ALSO, i have a 1916 mfg. Steyr Hahn in 9mm luger in excellent condition...do any of you guys have an idea on what that would be worth? (thinking about selling it for another luger) Thanks in advance!!!! Adam

also the holster that came with the Luger is marked "Otto Kobers@#$(stiches cover last letters)LANDSBERG aW. 194(1?) I was told that the holster is worth a couple bucks, any idea of its value?

On the pistol, it would not bring its value up much at all.

The holster, anywhere from $50 - $200, all depending on condition, color of holster, and condition of holster.

Adam,

I can't answer your questions but am very interested in learning more about your 1914/1920 Erfurt. I'm developing a database on Weimar police unit marks and police school marks are fairly hard to find. Would you post or email me a description (or photos) of this gun including the exact police school mark including all periods, any other unit marks, including any that have been crossed out, the serial number, the existence/evidence of a sear or mag safety and any other unique features? I will appreciate it very much.

Actually, restrawing would probably lower the value slightly.

Tom, I disagree on the lowering of value. Remember we are talking about a Russian dip gun, not a bring back. Aesthetically it would look better, but it is what it is a Russian import marked gun. I doubt that these guns will ever command more than shooter price. Unless it is a rare model and then it would be properly restored.

Munsterman,

The value of your Steyr Hahn depends on several factors but generally speaking the range would be about $300. - $700., more if it is exceptional. You stated that it is 9mm Luger: was it rebarreled to 9mm Luger and so marked or did you really mean 9mm Steyr? (not the same cartridge). You can find out more about this gun on Jan Still's Luger website (on the links section of this website). I am a potential buyer if you decide to sell it. This site and Jan's site would be good places to post the sale. As for the strawing question, in my opinion you have a shooter and it doesn't matter one way or the other. KFS

I think that the re straw wouldn't hurt the resale price and may increase it slightly. If you are thinking about doing it for resale,I wouldn't. If you are thinking about it because you want to make your gun look better, Go for it,after all it is your gun.

I know one very advanced collector who's opinion is that, the Russian guns will come into their own as a class of collectable Lugers before long.

Yours is in pretty nice condition. I'm with pipeman. If you bought it as a low end collectable? Leave it as is. If you want a dressy shooter, then go ahead.

Yes, I will post pics of the Police markings and the safety, I think i will just save the money and leave it as is, because if i do restraw it everybody will know that it isnt original strawing(the russian cap marks=dipped) As for the Steyr Hahn it is in very nice condition with only minor wear on the blueing on the bottom on mag and on moving parts, it is marked "08" on the left side along with a eagle, and on the right side there is Austro-Hungarian proofs, Bohemian lion crest and Nazi eagle w/ swastika....Thanks for the info!
