Navy On Gunbroker...

Looks like this 1906 2nd. Issue Navy is missing its grip safety...

Maybe it's a 1908 Commercial Navy...??? Have sent the seller some questions...

Unless the thumb safety was changed out too, it isn't missing a grip safety, it never had one. I am sure you are correct about the vintage, it looks like a 1908 Navy military to me. What am I missing that might make it a commercial?

Its not a commercial with those military proof marks of the left side of the receiver. But it looks like a 1908 with that long frame. I would need some more pictures but on first looksee, it doesn't look like its been messed with.

Another thing that might be interesting is the flat board stock. I couldn't see any proof marks on the wood though. If someone has that serial number on their gun, it might be a good buy.

I don't know where this guy can say that his serial number of 7372b makes it a 1906. I have a 1908 that has serial number 3378b and its definately a 1908. I also have another 1908 whose serial number is 3392d. I think that somebody just threw a monkey wrench in this guys machinery. But his added pictures makes this Luger more interesting.

Should there be a 2-digit serial number stamped on the lower edge of the take-down lever...i.e. commercial style stamping...???

Same question for the lower edge of the side plate...photo does not show this area too well...

Pete,
yes, the two digit serial number for a navy should should be on the bottom of the take-down lever as well as the side plate. People regard this as commercial style marking. But this is true on the military navies as well as on the commercial navies.

The commercial navies will not have any markings on the right side of the receiver. The ONLY marking on the left side of the receiver would be a 'lazy', crown 'N'. By lazy I mean that the crown 'N' will be laying down or parallel to the barrel.

I might add that the commercial 1908 navy (serial number range 51000) may be either a long frame or a short frame.

Be *very afraid* of this 'un...lots wrong with it in just a few pix; more pix would certainly reveal more problems.
