Frankenstein Luger

Has anyone on this site built a Frankenstein Luger? To those who are unfamiliar with this term it's a pistol which has been assembled out of parts usually picked up at gun shows or on Ebay and other on line sites.

ASAIC I only deal with Lugers as collectible, I only own a bunch of them really, that from time to time I clean and lube religiously handling them like nuclear warheads.

I've "put together" a couple of Frankenshooters, one a Navy and the other a VOPO frame Mauser with a DWM .30 top end. I'm sure many other forum members have done the same. Do you have a specific question about the process involved? Bill

Hi Maximus, there are several categories of Luger enthusiasts on this forum, and one of them is shooters! And another is builders! Between those two groups, I believe 100% of the members have tried, or are trying, or have built many, many luger shooters! They range from mint quality restorations, to rusted up mongrel dogs... But, one thing I learned from my AR days is, " One major part justifies a complete build!" ....

.... And, if you want to pick nits, to most of us, a minor part will suffice just as well!

This is about as close as I have gotten to a "Frankenstein" Long barrel is 9mm, the bottom short barrel is 30 Luger and the middle barrel has the .22 cal. insert.

I fall mostly into the shooter category. Because of that, I have built a few shooter Lugers from mixed and match parts. They can/will take a bit of fitting of the parts, but can be made to function quite nicely. If while shooting one of these Lugers, a part should break, no harm, no foul......and no tears.

I have built, restored, and repaired a number of luger pistols.
Being a long time gun hobbyist and once gunsmith, I enjoy it.

Working on building a "baby" luger now, with help from several friends who are members here.

In addition to my "collecting lugers", I have 5 shooters- 4 of which I have put together and are thoroughly Frankenstein'd.

Thanks! That's what I figured. I've built a bunch of Frankenstein 1911's over the years and they're fairly easy to find parts for and put together. I'd guessed that a P08 wouldn't be too much harder except that the parts aren't as easy to locate.

Luger parts aren't easy to locate and unlike 1911 must be fitted together, in other words COLT, ITHACA, REMRAND, US&S parts are all interchangeable without any problem; with LUGER parts is not always that simple.
