Lugers By R. Shattuck...
Ken,
Your Death-head looks quite a bit diffenent that what is published in R. Shatttuck's "Lugers of Ralph Shattuck", on page 38. The chin on the skull does not look quite right and the bones do not either... Waiting for others to reply... |

Re: Lugers By R. Shattuck...
Pete: Thanks for your input, even if the luger that I have is not a real DH, I still like it very much. I was just interested in finding out what I had. This is a very good forum, and I like it very much. This Luger is the second one that I have ever owned, the first one was a WW2 s/42 in almost unfired condition, sadly I sold it about 20 years ago. Its just like old cars that we used to have, what would it be like to have them back. Thanks again...Ken

Re: Lugers By R. Shattuck...
Just my opinion, but I believe that the Death Head has been engraved rather than stamped. I am not even sure that the date is original to the pistol. The Death Head appears to show the tell-tale chip marks of being hammer engraved, and the date appears to show the same. The 6 is oddly flat on the top. Also, with the receiver top being rounded, you would expect to see the stamping much deeper in the middle rather than being almost exact uniform depth.

I agree with Pete, Costanzo's book also shows several heads of differnet design. This one is quite different.

Is there any way you can post the pictures from the book so I can see the differences? Thanks...Ken

Re: Luger Ken-per your request
Hello, where can I see other pictures of death head lugers (actual pictures) at? I would like to compare them to mine. Thanks Ken.

Re: Luger Ken-per your request
Ken,
I do not have a scanner, so cannot acutally send a photo. But if you have access to : 1. Ralph Shatuck's book "Lugers Of Ralph Shattuck" on pages 38-39, there is a photo of a gun with a death head logo. The photo looks just like the markings/sketches posted earlier, here, by another Forum member. Maybe another Foum member can scan this photo and post it...? |
