New opinion thread DWM bought!

On my last thread everyone got confused which pistol I was talking about any more.
Geo posted a link of a real nice pistol and they accepted my offer of $1,000 shipped. So I would love some more opinions on it.

P.08 made in 1916 should bear a stock lug and hold open.

It does, if you go to the link and view additional photos they clearly show an intact stock lug. Every indication would suggest that a hold open is also present.

It says: just a shooter grade gun? But still original numbered parts, including the hold open and firing pin. Not import marked, so most likely a vet bring back.

I think you paid smack in the middle of "fair".

I think the grips have either been seriously cleaned or are modern replacements, with a lean toward replacements.

Fair doesn't sound that positive. I paid $1000 shipped. They said grips were most likely replacements.

Hi Tony, Fairness is all relative. While $1,000.00 for this gun may not rank up there with the Louisiana Purchase as one of the great bargains of all time, it's a far, far better deal than that first gun you were considering.

I found prices in the current market higher than expected with not much under $1k unless I was willing to get a commercial 7.65.
I saw some under a thousand that looked like they spent time in the ocean. This one matches but doesn't have original grips. Oh well. How much is the mag worth? Can I trade up to one that matches?

Tony, I agree..you can't get hurt. shoot it and love it for a decade..time comes to sell and you will not be unhappy is my bet.
Yes, the grips are without doubt repro. Nice ones..they fit well around the safety and the mag release. You will notice the grips don't come to a knife edge wood to metal..like originals do. Most people consider repro grips to feel "fat" and this is the reason.
The magazine looks Finnish. The magazine you want is one GT Tomek makes..wood bottom, new springs and tuned to shoot. I think he sells them for around a hundred bucks. It's a shooter..not much sense in looking for a matching magazine.

All I did was suggest you look at some guns of a better quality. I think you did just fine. Yes the grips are repro, but that was stated. You certainly did not get ripped off, which is where you appeared to be heading. Unfortunately there are a lot of sharks and crooks out there looking to sell their junk to a newbie like you. Congrats on your first Luger - let us know how it shoots!

This one isn't perfect but not heavily pitted with decent finish left. I see some spotting but hope it might clean off a little more. I think I did ok shooting report in two weeks. ( California)

Tony, A lot of that patina will be removable with some solvent and a stainless steel brush. Then keep the pistol well oiled to prevent return. Don't forget to scrub well under the wood grips. TH

Come on after all if it is all matching apart from magazine I think you got a nice gun and probably paid the right price for it. Congratulations.

Congrat on your first Luger. The down side to this purchase is that you will want another to keep it company.....then how about a long bbl, or a Navy? They are like eating one peanut.....Enjoy!!

In general, gun is an expensive item. Sometimes, we look at a relatively cheap gun, for example, Norinco Tokarev, say $350, and we feel its absolute price is not high. But that's comparing with other guns. If visit Sears, for example, that's the price of an new lawnmower, which is a much bigger, heavier and complex device, and it's super useful. Thinking from that angle, then, there is virtually no cheap gun. Even Norinco is not cheap, let alone a C&R.

Of course, that's the view of people don't play guns. For gun lovers, that's less relevant.
