Metal follower, plastic base.

I don't get what their problem is with manufacturing Luger mags.

I bought one and I didn't like the blued one - it had a lot of drag on the spring. I sent it back to Mecgar and they said they would give me a stainless one - I've been waiting over a year to get it back!

I believe that if I were in your shoes, I would give Mec-Gar a call concerning the mag exchange. It sounds as though they may well have forgotten about you.

Mec Gar are worlds better than Triple Ks in general quality, fit and finish.

It all seems to depend on what your particular gun likes when it comes to Lugers.

I had thought Gerry had posted that the new-style Mec-Gar mags had a plastic follower now...

There were some other small differences, leading to a lesser quality magazine (compared to their earlier magazines)...

Two of the nickel 'old style' Mec-Gar magazines I bought new had pins of a type not usually found in Mec-Gars...Not inferior, just an odd gauge...

Default New MecGars

The new MecGars definitely have plastic followers. I've got one of the new nickel mags. Generally, I like the old ones with metal followers better; but actually the new one functions better in my two shooter pistols (one .30 & one 9mm). I guess the plastic or polymer follower will hold up okay- it has so far. Bill

I'd say this is correct because if you think about it, the follower is captivated between top of the spring and the bottom of the last round--squeezed rather than pushed, as it would be for a mag bottom. No forces to split it, so they should hold up pretty well, IMO. The followers in the original Erma mags are plastic for the KGP .380s and .32 autos. If you think a Luger spring is tight and stiff, check out one of these babies, as they are a real BEAR to compress, and the cheap-o tool that comes with them is a real blessing. Their 8-shot KGP69 .22lr mags are the same. I haven't shot a bajillion rounds out of any of them, but nonetheless have observed not a hint of a problem with any of their plastic followers. Plastic might also be a boon to function, as it tends to be nice and slippery riding against smooth metal.

At one time GT had some mag jigs available for both resting the mag body on and also the correct mandrel for pounding out dents. I will have a good supply of the new Mecgar mags in stock by next week. TH

I received the same email from Greg Cote. I have dealt with both Greg and Tom in the past, and can verify that one can order from either with no fear.

I received my back orders of the Mecgar PO8 mags yesterday, so they're available for sale. Other than the black composite follower and non-checkered follower button, these appear the same as their previous variations. TH
