This could be a clue. Guy you are talking about is my friend Marvin Cook.

That was also about 9 yrs ago

All other gatherings have been informal or at Louisville, which was nice.

This was the morning trip to Ralph's, that afternoon, another group went (me, and about the same number of folks, Ron Wood was there, unsure at 5:20 AM who else was there, do not believe I took a group photo, but I still have photos of looking around at Ralph's.

Most of these were taken the same day

The picture was from the 2000 Gathering. We had another one in 2002. Read about it here.

Unfortunately at the time, my circumstances did not permit me to attend either of those sessions... the early days of the Lugerforum... ahhh I remember them well! How far we have come as an organization... I remember when the membership numbered less than FIFTY people... we are now close to 8500 registered members...!

One the original photo...

Names and faces I can remember,

Back row (left to right):

(Can’t Remember), Frank Manders, Ted Green, Hugh Clark, (Can’t Remember), Gerry Tomek (GT), John Dunkle

Front Row Left to Right):

Marvin Cook, Murray Willis, Ralph Shattuck, GT Jr, …. (Not sure who is on the bottom right…)

Eric,

You have to be at the right place, at the right time... and have the money... that is how it is possible...

How many?, I wouldn't even want to venture a guess. I don't believe that anyone owned more Lugers than Ralph Shattuck at the peak of his collection, except the German government!

Good memory, the man to the left of Frank is his son, dont remember his name. Bill Forsythe is the man standing between Hugh Clark and GT. At the bottom right is Jack McCabe.
Ralph started at age 14 collecting Lugers and he told me at one time he had around 500 in his personal collection and another 1100 in inventory. All those Lugers in that room smelled great!

I don't know about rarest, but I think his most prized Luger was a Hiram Maxim presentation carbine.
