Default 1916 DWM/Erfurt Parts/Shooter Luger Resurrection

This one was bad, Before and After. Notice the partridge type front sight, The trigger was replaced.

Nice work on the pitting Thor ... as usual.
The pistol's bluing and strawed parts look great.
Reminiscent of the Finnish M23 Luger re-barreled with a Tikka barrel & site.

Thanks for showing.

I have a similar 1938 DWM with a 'target' site. (It needs your magic)

Only two ways to do it. It disappears when the surrounding metal is worked down to the same level. or the pits are filled with weld and worked back down to the original, surrounding surfaces. Depends on the depth, number, and location of the pits...

Another nice restoration that the owner can now proudly show off.

That front sight looks more like a Mauser rifle sight blade, sometimes called a "barleycorn" sight and not really a Patridge blade. It's more an inverted V.

I used a Mauser front sight on my very mismatched Vopo Luger that I had a 6" .30 barrel installed on. It's a nice sight and works very well.

Doubs, please look at the 1914 Erfurt Artillery Luger I recently posted in this section, it has a barley corn looking front sight too, or perhaps it is a "bead" front sight blade.

“We can know, not what a thing is, but what its name is.” ... it's a gun sight ... Unlike meaning, the truth always survives translation.

Semantics can cloud the waters. I have seen both m98 and k98 rifle sights used as sight blades.
Both work quite well as do many other rifle sights.

The main thing is not whether its called a 'barley corn', a 'partridge' or an 'm98 or k98 rifle sight but that Thor has done a wonderful job and this gun would make anyone proud.

A barleycorn front sight will have a wide base and taper to a point at the top. A Patridge sight is a blade with parallel sides and flat on top.

The front sight on the 1914 Artillery Luger you did such a fine restoration on looks like it could be a bead but it's difficult to say for certain.

Years ago, when Springfield Sporters at Penn Run, PA, was still selling surplus parts, I bought a set of Mauser rifle front sight blades and also Enfield rifle front sight blades. Other sights I bought at the time were No. 4 Enfield milled adjustable rear sights. Brand new and, IIRC, $10 each.

I believe it is important to use the correct "name"- using the wrong name only perpetuates errors and confusion.

The differences between sight shapes are important- in this case the front sight is not original and that is what should be known.

I have removed broad but shallow pitting on my DWM mixmaster shooter by hand-stoning the affected parts using water stones, one stroke at a time. I worked on my shooter's frame, receiver and barrel very carefully over a period of weeks.

Deeper pits are welded, typically via TIG process, using electrode/rod specifically formulated for this work. Available through Brownell's in Iowa.
