Default 1906 American Eagle Repair?

I have always sensed there was something wrong with my 1906 American Eagle (AE) but I could never quite put my finger on what was wrong with it. That was until I ran into a guy at the range who was shooting his 1906 AE and then it hit like the proverbial "ton of bricks" that the portion of the grip safety that blocks the sear bar was too short. I went home, dug through my reference material and found a measured drawing of the grip safety from a Model 1900 and sure enough mine is about 1/16th of an inch short. This is way beyond what would be considered normal manufacturing tolerences.

I realize it is going to take a master carftsman, a Leonardo da Vinci of welding, to restore the length. Recommendations, please!

Maybe the question should be "Should I even worry about it?". The pistol is in excellent condition except for incorrect magazine (Mec-Gar) and the grips have been repaired with accu-glas to stop them from moving.

Wisard, If you don't mind an unnumbered M1906 type grip safety, I have them available like new @$75. Also have some correct original commerical wood bottom mags in the $100 range and several sets of original and repro grip safety grips starting @$50. TH
