Default Pre-WW2 9mm ammunition boxes

Here are some 9mm ammunition boxes from Spandau and DWM.

The top 3 were manufactured by the Royal Rifle Factory in Spandau, 2 of the boxes show an interesting remark (they also show that it is not a good idea to use plastic tape). Barely readable is the phrase 'Aufgearb. Hülsen' (or 'Reworked Cases'). It is a little known fact that used cases were recycled and reused. The cases were marked with a small circular symbol indicating that they were reloaded.

The bottom box was made by DWM under their 'P28' code name.

Box 1:
Spandau, August 1914. Reused cases.

Box 2:
Spandau, February 1914.

Box 3:
Spandau, August 1914, Reused cases.

Box 4:
DWM Karlsruhe, Mach 1914.

Box 5:
DWM Karlsruhe, lot 8, 1937.

Default Those are beautiful!

I found these at a gunshow. Eighty dollars for both! They go well with my 1917 DWM artillery. I have to ask. Where did you find them?

Default Boxes

Very nice pictures. It brings back a good feeling to think that they were kept for such a long time. Mine is stashed deep and I barely open it. The seal on the box is only hanging by a thread.

The top 3 boxes were probably kept for the wrong reasons. They appear to come from a forensic institute in Germany in the early 1960s.

Here is a detail photo of the reused cases. Note the circular marking on the bottom.

@Piet and Eric: Nice boxes, also produced in Spandau.

And here is an example of the oldest Spandau marked round I found so far.

Lot #12 from 1909.

I have these three, sorry that I was lazy and did not take them out of the saran wrapper.

I also have some early cartridges, I would have to look and see what I have. But I think most are not really early ones.

My three pre WW2 boxes, are I believe that they are from top to bottom

Familiar box

The bottom box is also interesting: WW2 production by DWM, with standard steel cased iron core ammunition, but with an uncoded contents label.

Gerben, Ed and all,

I have used a vacuum sealer with great results in preserving items and ammo. I may collapse the box, but it will be preserved.

I store them in a dedicate safe, which is required by law over here anyway, so that protects them relatively well.

Here is a better image of the DWM box. A really nice enigma. The contents are standard WW2 code 1943 faa marked steel case iron core rounds. The box is dated 1944 inside.

Whoever bought the rounds from DWM was some organization other than the German army, as the label does not conform to army regulations. It may have been a small police contract, or perhaps a foreign order from a befriended nation. Since they showed up in Germany, I lean towards police use.
