Rough Estimate?
I have a Luger 1942 with all the matching numbers on the parts and magazine. The weapon is in good to very good condition and the bore is excellent. This weapon will be sold to purchase a digital camera for a local police department and I need some honest answers as to the approx. value. Also, it appears to have the numbers 834 on the bottom of the barrel and wondered what they meant. Does this mean that the barrel has been replaced? Thanks for the help.

Kosovok9,
To give you an idea of the value of your Luger we need as much info as you can give regarding markings and condition. A 1942 Luger could be worth $400 or $4000 depending on what, exactly, it is. The condition, also, has a LOT to do with value. The 834 is probably 8,84 which is the measured bore diameter. If there is no comma between the 8's, it is probably the serial number. Regards, Leon |

Kosovok9,
I think what Leon is trying to tell you is that much more information on your pistol is required before a good ballpark estimate can be made of it's value... Check out the Technical information pages here on Lugerforum.com and you will find identification sheets that tell you what information needs to be provided... After you post the information, a much closer determination of value can be made.

Thanks for the help. The weapon is exactly like that pictured in the member gallery under 1942 Banner. It is hard to tell from the photograph but the one I have appears to be in a little better condition. After doing a little more reasearch and digging deeper into the box (and history) I find that I have two magazines with the serial number engraved with the number 1 on the one in the pistol and number 2 on the other one. The pistol is a "bring back" from WWII and the soldier that brought them back was part of the folks who liberated concentration camps. I would be glad to provide anyone with a photograph.

K-K9,
If you have digital photo capabilities, either directly from a camera or with a scanner, you can post the photos here for all collectors to see and you will get the best results as far as response. You can even scan the pistol directly on a scanner if you don't have a digital camera. If you need help, there is a photo posting tutorial in the Site Help & Feedback forum that was written by Ed Tinker... it is a step by step that is easy to follow. If that fails, just ask here!

HI Kosovok9
It sounds like you have a 1942 Mauser Banner Police. That will be worth more than an equivalent byf 1942. If the serial numbers on the mags match the serial number of the gun that is a BIG plus. The 1 & 2 on the mags are police markings. After that, all matching numbers on the gun and condition should give us a clue to the approximate value. Clear pictures will help. Regards, Leon |
